2017 Australian Winter School Conference



The Australian Winter School (AWS) is a long-standing national drug and alcohol conference in Queensland jointly presented by the Queensland Network of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies (QNADA) and Lives Lived Well, one of Queensland’s leading non-profit alcohol and other drug service providers.

In 2017 the conference celebrates its 30th year. Over two days delegates can explore the complex intersection between alcohol and other drugs and other sectors with the theme of Crossroads and sub-themes Collaborate, coordinate and integrate.

Main topics will cover prevention, harm reduction and treatment, with a focus on innovative practice and new ideas. The conference will include keynote presentations, panel discussions and interactive breakout presentation sessions.

Knowledge Centre Cafe

Senior Research Officer, Avinna Trzesinski, held a cafe for two days at this conference. Avinna received lots of positive feedback from delegates and stall holders and spoke with people about their work on topics such as youth AOD and homelessness, offender health, treatment programs, men’s programs and more.

Avinna showed delegates some of the latest resources including the AOD policy timeline, the Webinar series, and illicit eBook, and assisted them to find information on the site related to their work including AOD and women’s health, mental health and substance use, healing, and policy.

Popular promotional items were pens, notepads and calico bags which were used at the conference. Many delegates also took at copy of one our latest reviews on volatile substance use and illicit drug use.
