East Arnhem Community Patrol and Nhulunbuy Sobering Up Shelter

 

Overview

East Arnhem Regional Council operates a Community Patrol and Sobering Up Shelter for the welfare of the people in the nine East Arnhem Land communities. The services are delivered in response to the need for culturally appropriate assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to minimise risk of harm.

The services assist communities to take responsibility in preventing anti-social, harmful, destructive and illegal behaviour by offering patrolling and safe transport. The activities undertaken by the Community Patrol teams include:

The council also run the Sobering up Shelter in Nhulunbuy, which assists the patrol teams by helping clients who are intoxicated and a potential threat to the community and/or themselves.
