Aboriginal Quitline

 

Overview

Aboriginal Quitline is a telephone helpline service that provides confidential support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people based in Victoria (Vic), New South Wales (NSW), and Queensland (Qld) who would like to quit smoking.

The service is available 8.00 am to 8.00 pm Monday to Friday, as well as some additional hours for the NSW service. Aboriginal Quitline advisors are professionals with specialist training to assist people with smoking cessation in a culturally appropriate way. Advisors will provide callers with a plan for quitting that is tailored to their individual needs, as well as information on different quitting methods and products, and written and other resources. Advisors can also link callers up with local support groups if requested.

Currently there is an Aboriginal Quitline service for New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, however all Quitline services are funded to provide culturally sensitive services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Quitline programs run throughout Australia, and can be contacted here:

Please note that the number for the Aboriginal Quitline is the same as the mainstream Quitline, however callers can ask to speak specifically to an Aboriginal Quitline advisor.
