Gorman Inpatient Unit

 

Overview

The Gorman Inpatient Unit, based at St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney, New South Wales, provides holistic, short-stay care (3-5 days) to people seeking alcohol and other drug treatment.

The service is available for adult patients who are 18 and over. Treatment is available for homeless people in inner city Sydney, as well as people accessing treatment for the first time. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to access the service, and provided with priority care.

Treatment is holistic, patient-centered and individualised, with a focus on the patient playing a key role in the treatment planning. Therapeutic groups are run five days a week by Allied Health and nursing staff, with the groups focusing on coping skills, relapse prevention, mindfulness, relaxation and self esteem. An Aboriginal Counsellor is additionally employed by the unit to provide culturally appropriate care.

The Gorman Unit Multidisciplinary Outpatient Service was initiated to provide outpatient care to people who accessed the Gorman Inpatient Unit. The service provides:

To access the service, people can self refer, or be provided with a referral by a GP or other clinician.
